Uncontrolled diabetes can lead to damage of the small vessels in the eyes leading to a condition called retinopathy. Diabetes is also associated with increased in cataracts, in glaucoma, and in macular edema. All of these complications can be prevented with good glucose control and with proper follow up at with an ophthalmologist. There is no reason why in today’s world any patient with diabetes should lose vision because of their diabetes.
